PSAL "A" Championship Results

After a great game by the B division and a great pitching performance by Michael Corona, No.1 seed Norman Thomas was ready to face No.6 seed for the top prize in PSAL a championship.

The game started as Mariel Checo striking out batter after batter in the first inning. The runs started to pour in in the fourth inning with Raul Gonzalez two out RBI single , and the tigers would score two more in the fifth and two more in the sixth to have some cushion against the well hitting Monroe team.

Checo Thomas ace right hand er with low to mid 90s fastball the best high school prospect in all five boros only allowed two runs on two hard hits. Checo was piling it all up inning after inning as he strike out the side in the second in 12 pitches. Checo would son retire 16 of 17 batters he faced. Checo would end up just allowing four hits and striking out 14 in 7 innings of pitching.

After getting the final out on a fly out to left the celebration's started to begin as Norman Thomas won the first championship in school history 5-2. While the players would dog pile each other on the mound the coaches were celebrating on the on deck circle with full joy as a great season unfolded for the tigers with a 21-0 record a perfect season for the tigers and a season to remember.

PSAL "B" Championship Results

Entering this game the Vipers were nervous about playing at Yankee stadium. With famous players such as Derek Jeter and A-Rod playing where these teenagers are playing at they were slightly nervous in the first 2 innings.

But that didn't last long after the Vipers score in the third starting with a walk leading with an error to score in Steven Caamanos. Than Ivan Romano drive in his identical brother Paul wit ha RBI single in the fourth.

Corona in the other hand was fooling Taft with his mid to high 80s fastball and a slider that was keeping Taft off balanced. Corona retired 12 in a row at one point. Corona allowed 5 hits on 2 runs and striking out 10 in a 4-2 to win PSAL "B" Division championship. Corona will also win MVP.

Both teams played hard but my prediction was correct alt ho i did predict in a 3-2 win, the Vipers did win 4-2 in a great pitching performance by Michael Corona.

It was a pleasure bringing u the PSAL "B" Division analysis at my blog, you can read more about the PSAL "A" division results in my upcoming blog as top seed Norman Thomas facing against NO.6 seed James Monroe.

PSAL "A" Championship Preview

Today at Yankee stadium two teams will have a chance to play at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and will have a chance to win a championship for their respective school.

No.1 seed Norman Thomas with a undefeated record of 21-0 in the Manhattan division will go up against NO.6 James Monroe with a record of 19-2 in the Bronx division. Both teams have been here before but James Monroe got the more experience since they have been here in in 2007 but fell short to tottenville.

James Monroe will have a chance to upset the NO.1 seed Norman Thomas who i favor winning this game . This is Thomas first time in school history to make it to the PSAL championship. Thomas doesn't have a home field or a practice facility and they're here to make it said that they deserve to have one and even with out one they're a still better team. Thomas got a deep pitching staff with Mariel Checo with his low 90s fast ball and they got great offense that scored a combine 43 runs in 5 games in the play offs.

James Monroe does have a little experience in this game they have defeated all the great teams that many people believed that couldn't of been defeated like Lehman, George Washington and Madison. First basement Nelson Arroyo is the only player on Monroe with championship experience when in his freshman year won a ring in 2006 when pitcher Danny Almonte was in the team. Arryo uses his ring to show his team and motivate them that is possible to win a championship which is probably the reason why his team is still in contention to winning the championship.

Good luck to both teams but i predict Norman Thomas will defeat James Monroe in a close game 5-4. Stay updated on my blog to read about the results of this game and the team that will win it all.

PSAL "B" Championship preview

On Monday June 9 2009 will be a day to remember for teams like HS of Health Profession(18-1) and Taft HS(18-2).
Both teams will have a chance to win a championship for their respective teams at Yankee stadium at 4pm. HS of Health Profession only loss was against Chelsea in their last season game 8-4. Health Profession is well known for their ace pitcher who can hit 90mph on the gun. Michael Corona is that kid with a .511 batting average 24 hits and RBI 7 doubles 4 triples and 1 home run. But Corona is mostly known for his pitching. Corona has a record of 7 wins 0 losses 1 save with a .19 era in 37 innings only allowing 8 hits 4 runs and 89 strikeouts. That leaves him second in PSAL in era and wins. Corona is 3-0 in the playoffs with a .56 era in 25 innings allowing only 8 hits and striking out 53. I predict Corona pitching a great game only allowing 3 hits 1 run and striking out 11 against a tough Taft team

In the other boro in the Bronx is Taft team. With both loses came in a last inning rally. Taft missed the playoffs in 2008 after going deep in the playoffs in 2007. They hope to bring a championship to their school that hasn't been done in a while. The Golden Eagles ended their regular season on a 9 game winning streak. Taft will expect great pitching from their ace Aresnio Perez with a 3-1 record3.20 era allowing 27 hits 14 runs and 20 strikeouts. Al tho Taft isn't known for their pitching they mainly rely on great defense and their offense. In the playoffs tats has scored 34 runs and only allowing 3 . Taft shutout their first 3 opponents in the plays and defeated the NO.1 seed River dale at Clinton field this past Monday.

I predict this game with go to Health Profession Vipers. Great pitching will always get u a victory and that's what they will depend on. I predict Corona will pitch a great game and winning the MVP award. Good luck to both teams and keep posted on my blog to see the results.

PSAL "B" Semifinals Results

Entering the Semifinals my prediction was Taft would defeat River dale in a extra inning game in a score of 3-2 with great pitching and defense to keep the games close, instead a high scoring game by Taft got them into the finals. And for Health Profession Bronx Science Cinderella story would come to an end as Michael Corona would pitch the game of his life.

Coming into the 2009 season River dale/kings bridge NO.1 seed in PSAL Baseball "B" division felt that they should of been moved up to the A division after making it to the semifinals in 2008 but lost. River dale came into this season confident with the starting pitching staff returning and a experience line up. River dale/kings bridge is the only undefeated team in the B division with a (19-0) record will be facing the NO.5 seed (18-1) record with their only lost to River dale earlier during the season in a 3-1 game.

At Clinton HS field Arsenio Perez got the ball to face a hot River dale team. Perez pitched 4 innings giving up two hits on three earned runs four walks and striking out five. Eliesel Then came in the fifth inning pitchin 3 innings allowing only one hit three walks and two strikeouts. Taft managed to have 11 hits Laiky Uribe and Pedro Salomon drove in two runs while Angel Romero drove in 1 on two hits.

Read all about the facts and quotes from coaches and players at http://www.fiveborosports.com/ssp/news?news_id=3043

In the other match up between HS Health Profession(18-1) and Bronx HS of Science(13-7) Michael Corona pitched 7 inning 1 hit ball game 4 walks and 15 strikeouts. Corona supported him and his team with 2 hits 2 runs, Christophe Jimenez drove in 2 runs.
Health Profession(18-1) will now face Taft(18-1) at Yankee Stadium at 4m on June 9 2009. Stay updated on my blog to hear about the team that come up on top and the team that will go home.

PSAL "A" SemiFinals Results

At keyspan park in the past weekend i had a chance to vist the game between Madison and James Monroe. Both teams before the game looked like they were ready to fight for a chance to play in the finals. From watching both teams warm up James Monroe looked well ready and crisp in their warmups and looked very eager to get the game goin. No.6 seed Monroe had Abel Guerro pitched 6 1/3 allowed twin earned runs . Monroe recieved plenty suppoer from Jesus Vasquez who drove in a run with a sacarifse fly in the third and Wander Almonte added wit a run scoring single in the fourth. The Eagles would score 3 runs again the seventh with a big hit from Joseph Gerena`s twon run single.

The Knights came into the game with no pressure on them, they knew people would critize of how they just barely made it through the playoffs and how theyve been lucky. Coach Vinny Caiazza" Id like to play a game tomrow. Id like to see next season sart tomorow" but who could blame him his team had a memorable run through the playoffs and what can be better than have their ace Eddie Lenahan on the hill in a game with a desperate win to fight for another day.

In the second game at keyspan park between No.1 seed Norman Thomas and No. 4 seed JFK my prediction is Norman Thomas winning both games and advance to the finals still undeafeated, and thats what happend in both games. In the first game between these two team Norman Thomas defeated JFk in a nail bitter 7-6 with a base running mistake error to end the game. Thomas the day after winning will defeated kennedy in a mercy rule 14-0.It started in the second with runners at the corners and one out.

Shortstop Frank Estevez fielded a routine three-hopper off the bat of Darlyn Gonzalez. Rather than taking the out at first, he went home, bounced the throw, allowing one run to score and setting up Jerry Mena’s RBI ground out. It got worse from there. Thomas scored three times in the third and fourth in the fourth, aided by errors by second baseman Jonathan Nevarez and right fielder Roberto Cabral, to put the game away.

Stay updated on my blog to hear about the "B" semifinals and Norman Thomas and James Monroe at the championship game friday June 6.

PSAL "B" Quater Finals

In the "B" division competing NO.1 seed River dale/Kings bridge (19-0) the only undefeated team in the B division shut out NO.32 seed Vans Arsdale 15-0 in the first round. In the second round they faced a hot Lafayette team, the game was closeup to the 5 inning when River dale scored 5 runs which was all they needed to eliminate the Patriots in the second round. River dale will now be facing NO.5 seed Taft at Clifton HS field 6-1-09at 3:30 pm.

No.23 seed Bronx science may have a low seed in the playoffs but they sure play as a top 10 seed. Bronx science with a 12-7 record will be facing No.3 seed Health Profession (18-1) at George Washington field. Health Profession only loss was a against Chelsea earlier during the season. Bronx Science Cinderella story sure is working for them right now, may it help them in the semi finals against a really good team like Health Profession with the pitching staff they have with Michael Corona their ace with a 7-0 record during the regular season with a .19 era and 89 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched.

My prediction is Taft will pull off a win against a young River dale team and Health Profession ending Bronx Science Cinderella story and advancing to the finals.Keep updating on my blog to see which teams will advance to the finals and which teams will go home.

PSAL "A" Quater Final

Down to the final 8 teams in Division A competition 8 teams will b fighting for a city title as they advance in the first 2 rounds.

No.1 seed Norman Thomas who are still undefeated will b facing No.9 seed McKee/Staten Island tech. Norman Thomas will be starting their ace Mariel Checo a hard right hand er that throws low to high 90s.

No.3 seed George Washington will be facing No.6 seed Monroe @ old boys and girls high field. George Washington have been a successful team in the past 11 years and with so much talent they re a hard team to beat. The Trojans will have return their hard hitting senior Aliday Barkley who failed off earlier from grades.

No.4 seed John F Kennedy will b facing one of Brooklyn top team No.5 seed telecommunications @ Cardozo HS field. The knights have been hitting very well the past couple of weeks and the Coach Torres will need those hits on Tuesday.

As for the No.2 seed Tottenville they will b facing against No. 8 seed Madison who has been anything close to lucky this year as they have 2 straight last inning rallies to win in the first two rounds. The Knights will need a huge clutch a game from their lineup to have any chance against Tottenville deep pitching staff.

With so many teams fighting for that championship and that final 4 spot, check out my blog to see which teams will advance and which teams will be going home.

Patriots Advance to the Second Round

The L.E.C. Patriots come in as the no.16 seed facing the no.17 seed Boys and Girls. The patriots coming into the game have won 8 straight games. The Patriots have faced Boys and Girls earlier during the season at Boys and Girls home field. The Patriots were losing as much 6 runs but made a 6 inning come back scoring 2 runs in the 6 and 7 inning but it wasn't enough against the kangaroos. Kelvin Ramirez gave up 6 runs on 5 hits striking out 9 in a 6-4 losing effort to the kangaroos. Coming into the game on Thursday the Patriots felt well confident with home field advantage and a winning streak on their mind to come in and win it all. Both the Patriots and the Kangaroos had a score less game after the 7 inning. In the 8 inning the Kangaroos scored their first run on a bases loaded walk that scored in the time run. But the Patriots didn't stop there, Angelo Rodriguez led off the inning with a double to right field , and John Nagiub walked the next at bat, Roberto Rivera scored in the tieng run , but that's all they will get in that inning. In the 9 inning kelvin Ramirez led off with a walk he would go on to steal second and advance to third. Juan Jimenez pulled out a squeeze play down the first base line to bring in Ramirez as the game winning run and to go on and win the game for the Patriots. The Patriots will now move on and face no.1 seed Riverdale from the Bronx on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Stay updated on my blog and read other PSAL teams trying to advance to their next round.
